Finland, famously known as the land of a thousand lakes, has captivated me as a photographer, particularly its unseen world.
I began diving solely to photograph our waters, fascinated by lakes, rivers, and natural springs that often don't require submersion.
As a photographer, I am intrigued by the unseen side of our waters. How does life look beyond the surface in a realm that has always been right next door, yet feels so far away?
Having explored dozens of northern waters over the years, I've come to experience the subsurface universe as an ancient space, always surprising me with its strangeness and untouchedness. It's tranquil. Time has stopped there.
In the water, I relax and become one with that silent world. This is the ongoing series from our fresh waters' wonders.

HIGHLY COMMENDED - WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR 58
Snorkelling in a serene lake, I was thrilled to come across a school of curious European perch swimming among clouds of pink-tinged algae. But beneath the beauty lies a warning - the algal blooms could result from climate change.
Posio, Finland, 2021
This photo is available as an open edition because I made a deal with the Natural History Museum of London. The museum partially finances its existence by selling goods in their shop. The place is fantastic, and I wanted to support the museum by allowing them to use my photo for selling prints and other merchandise related to the Wildlife Photographer of the Year (WPY) competition.
